Stormbreaker, Gordon River

The end of the 600 nautical mile Sydney to Hobart yacht race, each New Year's Eve, is the highlight of Hobart's boating year. You can enjoy the harbourside festival atmosphere as crowds flock to see ocean racing yachts illuminated by spectacular fireworks.

Tasmania is a Mecca for boating enthusiasts, from ocean racers to calm water canoeists. Nowhere on the island is more than 70 miles from the sea. You can charter a vessel for big game fishing or quiet sailing. Safe harbours abound and the island is dotted with lakes (all stocked with trout).

Whether you desire a harbour cruise or a wilderness experience, a jet boat ride or a day's sailing on an historic square rigger, Tasmania has it all.

A popular choice is a West Coast river experience. There are a range of cruises in this area. From your vessel, marvel at the rugged wilderness reflected in a narrow river.
