![]() The Spirit of Tasmania, Devonport Sea On 31st. August 2002, two new, large vessels commenced a daily service. Regular crossings are overnight with extra daytime ones in peak periods. Both vessels carry all types of vehicles at very low cost with most cars free. The ships, Spirit of Tasmania I and II, sail 10 hours overnight, offering safe, comfortable travel for 1300 passengers in a range of accommodation from sleeper chairs to Deluxe cabins. The majority of berths are in twin, three and four berth cabins. All cabins have private facilities. The ships are fully equipped with restaurants, games areas, lounges, bars and gaming rooms, for your enjoyment. In peak times, additional daylight crossings are also provided and passengers are charged only seat fares, although cabins may also be purchased, if required. Air Qantas airlines operate regular flights from Melbourne to Tasmania landing at four different locations: Hobart, Launceston, Burnie and Devonport. Fares vary greatly, however, advance purchase tickets are generally the cheapest. Virgin airlines operate to Launceston and Hobart from Melbourne, with connections to most major ports. Fares are discounted with varying conditions.
